Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Know Your Candidate (“we”, “our”, or the “Service”), a free, nonpartisan U.S. voter-information website. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Know Your Candidate helps voters find factual, sourced information about candidates for federal office — U.S. President, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House. The Service presents official records, archived pages, news articles, campaign-finance data, and public video footage related to each candidate, along with links to the original sources.
2. Nonpartisan and no recommendations
The Service is strictly nonpartisan. It does not endorse, recommend, rank, or favor any candidate, party, or ideology. We do not tell you whom to vote for. You alone decide. Nothing on the Service is an endorsement or a statement that any candidate is better or worse than any other.
3. Information accuracy and honest disclaimers
We aim to be accurate and to represent each source faithfully. However:
- Information is provided “as is” and may be incomplete, outdated, or change over time.
- Where information is not available, we say it is “not currently available” rather than guess. We do not fabricate positions, dates, URLs, or claims.
- Where a position is auto-extracted from an archived page, it is labeled as such and linked to the archived source.
- We cannot guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of third-party data (e.g., official records, news coverage, or archived pages).
4. Third-party content and sources
The Service displays or links to content from third parties, including official government sources (such as the Federal Election Commission and Congress), news publishers, the Wayback Machine / Internet Archive, Wikipedia, and YouTube. We do not host, download, or re-upload such content. Videos are shown as thumbnails and links to the public video on YouTube; we do not interfere with YouTube’s player or controls. All trademarks and content belong to their respective owners.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service, including: attempting to access, scrape, or interfere with the Service in ways that harm it or others; using it for unlawful purposes; or misrepresenting the Service’s content. You may share and link to the Service and its individual results freely for personal, non-commercial use.
6. Intellectual property
The Service’s own text, layout, and code are made available to support transparent civic information. Third-party trademarks and content remain the property of their owners.
7. No warranty and limitation of liability
The Service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the Service or reliance on its information. Voter decisions are yours, and you should verify important information against official election offices and sources.
8. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
9. Contact
